Introduction

Ever wondered where to get the most jaw-dropping view of Shenzhen? Let me tell you about my favourite spot - the Ping An Finance Center's observation deck!

This incredible skyscraper isn't just tall (though at 599 meters, it's the fifth-tallest in the world!); it's also the perfect place to watch Shenzhen panorama below you.

Trust me, whether you're a tourist or a local, this view will take your breath away.

Getting There

The tower sits in the heart of Futian District and is incredibly easy to reach. Take the Shenzhen Metro Line 1, 2, or 3 to Shopping Park Station, and you'll be just minutes away from the entrance.

If you prefer, numerous bus routes stop nearby, and there are clearly marked taxi drop-off points.

The View Experience

Free Sky 116 is where the magic happens. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer spectacular 360-degree views of Shenzhen's skyline, and on clear days, you can even spot Hong Kong across the bay. The observation deck is spacious and well-designed, giving you plenty of spots to take in different angles of the city.

Visiting with Kids

The Ping An Finance Center is surprisingly family-friendly, with plenty to keep children entertained. The super-fast elevator ride is an adventure in itself, and older kids will love the VR experience that simulates sliding down from the building's top.

Best tips for families:

  • Visit during quieter times (Tuesday-Thursday mornings)
  • Late Saturday evenings are often peaceful too
  • Consider getting a souvenir photo - a bit lame, but perfect for family memories
  • The VR experience (a simulation of a giant slide ride from the top of the building) is great for older kids and adults - we had to remind ourselves that it is not real and we are safe in the chair!

Photography Spots

Want to capture some amazing shots? Here are the best spots to photograph the tower:

  • Lianhuashan Park (especially beautiful at sunset)
  • The elevated walkway near Shopping Park Station
  • The viewing platform at Civic Center

For photos from the observation deck itself, try visiting during early morning or late afternoon when the light creates stunning effects through the glass facade.

The Architecture Story

This isn't just another tall building. The Ping An Finance Center, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, features a clever chevron-shaped silhouette that's both beautiful and practical.

The tapered form helps handle strong winds, while the glass panels are designed to maximize natural light while keeping the interior comfortable. Completed in 2017, it's a perfect example of modern architecture done right.

What's Around

Make the most of your visit by exploring the surrounding area.

Lianhuashan Park offers peaceful walks and great views of the tower.

In the evening, the neighbourhood comes alive with an exciting mix of restaurants serving everything from local Cantonese specialties to international cuisine.

Consider dining at One Avenue nearby - this upper class shopping mall has great restaurants serving both Chinese and international foods (we ate in a restaurant serving Yunnan specialties and we loved it!).

Helpful Tips

  • Book ahead during peak tourist season
  • Views are clearest during autumn and winter
  • Even on hazier days, the experience is worthwhile
  • Combine your visit with Lianhuashan Park for the perfect day out

Whether you're interested in architecture, traveling with family, or simply enjoy amazing views, the Ping An Finance Center should be on your Shenzhen must-visit list.

It's more than just an observation deck - it's a window into the city's remarkable story and a perfect spot to create lasting memories.
